Malawi News Agency launches website: www.manaonline.gov.mw

Information and Civic Education Minister, Moses Kunkuyu explained on Monday that  Malawi News Agency (Mana) website would offer a platform for newsmakers especially those based in rural areas.

The Minister made these remarks in Lilongwe during inaugural ceremony of Mana website (www.manaonline.gov.mw), saying societies could fully participate in public affairs if there were collective efforts in harnessing the power of communication technology.

“The website will now offer a platform for news makers especially those based in rural areas to be heard just like urban centres.

“You may agree with me that to build societies today, societies of individuals who can fully participate in public affairs, require that we fully and collectively harness the power of communication technology,” Kunkuyu said.

He also explained that the launch of the website reaffirmed that the current regime believed in openness and disclosure rather than secrecy and concealment.

“It is through initiatives like these that government through my Ministry is according the nation an opportunity to know fully what is doing and gives an opportunity to Malawians to provide their feedback on government’s undertakings,” he added.

Kunkuyu, however, urged those that would ensure that the website remained operational to work hard and sustain it.

Mana was established in 1966 to disseminate, analyse and package information for public knowledge and consumption.
