Malawi orphans on ‘thank-you’ tour of Taiwan

About 30 orphans from Malawi are visiting Taiwan on a “thank-you” tour their shelter at the Amitofo Care Center founded by Taiwan-born Dharma Master Hui Li.

Accoridng to Taiwan’s Central News Agency report, the visiting youngsters sang Taiwanese folk songs and performed kung fu routines at Kaohsiung City Hall Friday, captivating an audience that included Mayor Chen Chu.

The performers began a one-month performance tour of Taiwan on December  1 “to express gratitude” to their local sponsors, CNA reported.

The report said Mayor Chen promised to continue her support after being impressed by the Malawian children’s proficiency in singing in Taiwanese, their martial arts and African traditional dances.

Chen has been a regular sponsor of the ACC for many years.

Hui Li founded the center in 2004 to offer shelter, care and education for local AIDS-orphaned youngsters. It currently is home to around 300 orphans and since its establishment, has provided care for nearly 3,000 underprivileged children
