Malawi Police arrest 3 men with rifle and live ammunitions at Livingstonia Beach Hotel
Malawi Police are keeping in custody three men found in illegal possession of a gun at the Sunbird Livingstonia Beach Hotel in the district.
Police identified the suspect as Nathan Chathyoka 43, of Kasisi Village Tradition Authority (T/A) Chapananga in Chikwawa district, Maganizo Namba 44 and Jennifer Chakanika 32 both from Nthenga village T/A Kaphuka in Dedza district.
Salima Police Public Relations Officer Sub-inspector Gift Chitowe, said on July 30, they received information from well wishers that the three were seen at Livingston Beach, in Senga-Bay with the firearm.
“These people were seen loading eight ammunitions in a magazine of ten, into a pistol bearing serial number ADP 3480 A,” said Chitowe.
Chitowe explained that at first Chathyoka resisted to have the car searched as he demanded a search warrant.
“We had to use force to seize the vehicle and took it to the Station where after a search the gun was found stashed and immediately the three were taken in for questioning before they were locked up,” he said.
The three were travelling in a Honda Fit motor vehicle registration number NE448.
According to Chitowe the three will appear in court soon to answer charges of illegal possession of firearm.
The arrest comes three weeks after armed robbers terrorized Salima town, robbing a Service Station, killing a fuel attendant and injuring a businessman.
