Malawi National Examination Board (Maneb) spokesperson Simeon Maganga confirmed the arrest of the five two in Blantyre and three in Lilongwe.

He said the suspects have been charged with various examination administration malpractices including one person who was writing the examination on behalf of somebody else.

“We discovered that he has a Malawi School Certificate of Education and he was writing the examination on behalf of somebody else. Looks like it was a coordinated event, that is why the police have also arrested a head teacher,” he said.

Maganga said in Lilongwe, a supervisor went to collect examination without the escort of police and claimed that he had lost an English paper.

He said Maneb and the police will continue to ensure there was maximum security during the examination period.

The suspects, when convicted risk paying a fine of K300,000 and 10 years in jail.
