Malawi Police arrest family for allegedly trying to sell off child
Police in Blantyre have arrested a married couple for allegedly trying to sell off a seven year old boy to raise money in order to construct a descent house.
Limbe deputy spokesperson Betsai Zembeneko said Godfrey Kampira, 57 and his wife Catherane Pearson, 34 are in police custody and have since been charged with child trafficking.
Zembeneko said the couple confessed they wanted to sell their child to build a house.
He said the prospective buyer tipped off police hence the arrest. Zembeneko said the couple got married last year after divorcing their first respective spouses and the woman brought into her new home four children one of which was put up on sale.
The police said the couple will appear in court after the new year festive holiday next week.
