Malawi police arrest grandpa for defiling an imbecile

Police at Phalula in Malawi’s eastern district of Balaka are keeping in custody a 78-year-old man for allegedly defiling an 18-year-old imbecile.

Police detective, Constable Paul Hasule Kapumila says the suspect Luciano Maulidi has been defiling the victim on several occasions since last year 2013 according to the investigator of the case.

“And last week the suspect defiled her again and the victim revealed the ordeal to her mother who reported the matter to Police Unit who arrested the suspect,” he says

Medical examination done at Phalula Health centre proved that the girl was really defiled and the suspect was diagnosed with sexually transmitted infection.

The police say the suspect who admitted having been defiling the victim will appear before court soon where he will answer the charges of defiling an imbecile which is contrary to section 139 of the Penal code.

Luciano Maulidi comes from Mundira village, Traditional Authority Chanthunya in Balaka district.
