Malawi Police arrest Lilongwe farmer for growing Indian Hemp
Malawi Police at Kanengo Police Station have arrested a 33 year old man identified as Christopher Chagazika allegedly growing Indian hemp.
Kanengo Police Deputy Publicist Sub Inspector Esther Mkwanda told Nyasa Times that Chagazika was cultivating the hemp in Kamange Village along the banks of Mtedza river.
“The Station’s Criminal Investigation Department team raided Chagazika’s farm following a tip from well wishers where they discovered that he indeed planted Indian hemp mixed with maize,” said Sub Inspector Mkwanda.
She further rvealed that the team uprooted more than 500 seedling of the hemp which has been sent to Chitedze Research Station for examination.
Chagazika is currently in custody at Kanengo Police as he awaits to appear before court soon once the results from Chitedze Research Station are released.
He hails from Kamange Village in the Area of T/A Chitukula in Lilongwe.
The farmer will answer a case of Cultivating Indian Cannabis contrary to regulation 6 of the dangerous drug regulation.
