Malawi Police arrest ‘mastermind’ in forgery: Iqbal Badat
Malawi Police on Thursday arrested a suspected mastermind in forgery of Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) cheques and government Local Purchase Orders (LPOs).
Police have identified the suspect as Iqbal Badat.
He was arrested following investigations on fake LPOs given to suppliers to procure reflector jackets and other materials for the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

National Police spokesperson, Rhoda Manjolo, said investigation were “still ongoing”.
Police said investigations are centering on “a number of fraud-related incidents”.
Badat is suspected to be the mastermind in issuing fake cheques from central bank and LPOs.
Recently, fake LPOs were issued for the purchase of MEC reflector jackets to be used in next week’s polls.
Police says Badat was mastermind of a scheme.
Meanwhile, police were looking into his activities in business deals and believes the man fits the profile of a fraudster.
