Malawi Police arrest murder suspect Pious Mhone

olice has arrested Pious Mhone aged, 28 who was on the run after stabbing to death Edward Manda aged 26 on Christmas Day at Chinguluwe area in Nkhata-Bay District.

Nkhata-Bay Police spokesperson Sergeant Martin Bwanali said on Christmas Day, the suspect was together with Marita Moyo, a sister to the deceased along the M5 Mzuzu-Nkhata-Bay Road.

“Manda was furious to see that her sister was having an affair with the suspect and that the two [Manda and Mhone] were together on that day. Manda told the suspect to leave her sister which Mhone refused.

“The two started fighting and after Mhone was being overpowered he used a knife and stabbed Manda twice in the stomach,” Bwanali explained.

Manda was rushed to Nkhata-Bay District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“After seeing that his colleague had collapsed, Mhone fled the area,” reported Bwanali.

Postmortem conducted at Nkhata Bay District Hospital revealed that the deceased died due to excessive loss of blood.

With assistance of the general public, police managed to arrest the suspect on Friday at Chindozga area in the district where he was hiding.

“We managed to arrest the suspect on Friday at Chindozga where he was hiding. We thank the general public who tipped us about the whereabouts of Mhone,” he said.

He will soon appear in court to answer murder charge and is remanded at Nkhata-Bay Prison.

Both Mhone and the deceased hail from Nthulinga village in the area of traditional authority Timbiri in the district.
