Malawi Police arrest private body parts trader

The mutilated penis

In a bizarre and most morbid incident, police in the Lakeshore District of Salima made a dawn arrest on Tuesday of a 24 year old man who was caught with a freshly cut  male genitals of a 45 year old man, which he intended to sell to a well known business lady in the district.

According to Police, the suspect Samuel Banda of Traditional Authority Kambalame in the district, confessed to have sold many private body parts to other well known business personalities at the Boma.

Police refused to disclose the names of the business persons or the names of their businesses saying that will jeopardize their investigations.

Salima Police Officer in Charge, Foster Mangani, confirmed the development in an exclusive interview with Nyasa Times, saying initially his officers received reports about an unconscious bleeding man lying along the railway tracks.

“But when took him to the hospital that is when we were alerted that the man had his private parts mutilated,” Mungali said.

The Officer in Charge then disclosed that they then received a tip from the owner of Tendai Lodge, Rosemary Nkhoma, that she had a man selling her  male  genitals for MK60, 000.

“We rushed to the Lodge and indeed arrested the suspect and found the private parts,” he said.

The victim (name witheld) met his fate in the early hours of Tuesday on his way home while coming from a drinking spree and is currently hospitalized at Salima district hospital.

Hospital sources said the man is fortunate to be alive but will not enjoy his conjugal rights for the rest of his life.

Due to poverty, issues of cutting genitals for money have become very common in Malawi and the rate at which some Malawians are willing to go in a bid to escape the excruciating poverty level is becoming a cause for concern for all.

Private body parts of human beings are on a high demand by witchdoctors and ‘merchants’ also sell the penis and testicles abroad where they fetch a lot of money
