Malawi Police arrest teacher who kidnapped learner for sex

Malawi Police in Thyolo are keeping in custody a 30-year-old primary school teacher for allegedly abducting and having an intimate relationship with a fifteen-year old girl (name withheld).

Confirming the development, Thyolo Police Station Officer, Bostons Amanzi said  the accused, Francis Adam, who is a teacher at Namitete Primary School in the district, has been in a relationship with the girl since 2016 and it was concerned citizens who tipped the police on the matter.

“According to reports, the victim had been sleeping in the house of the accused and most of the times Adam was having sexual intercourse with her,” said Amanzi adding that the victim, however, was lying to her parents that she was sleeping at a friend’s house.

Amanzi added that on the night of June 8, the girl was discovered at the house of the accused where she revealed that she had been in a secret relationship with the teacher, a development that led to the arrest of Adam.

Adam, who is currently on separation with his wife has already appeared in court where he is answering abduction charge which is contrary to section 135 of the Penal Code.

Adam hails from Chirambe Village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Chitera in Chiradzulu District.

It’s not consensual when it involves a minor. It becomes consensual when it’s two adults.

Colleagues there are two cases her: 1. Defilement – which is having sex with anyone 16 years and below. 2. Abduction, getting a girl 16 years and young without her parents consent is a serious crime.

Police must amend the charge sheet and add defilement case as well.

So where does the word kidnap comes from when these randy teacher and student have been having consensual relationship? What type of reporting is this? You have clearly stated that girl student has been sneaking to offer her goods to this libidous teacher who has sold all his professional morals because of chewing too much gondolosi in thyolo. He doesn’t have an abduction case or whatsoever kidnap case.Msegulireni mlandu wina uyu.Tina kale kuti zovina mabere pamtunda ayi..muli ayi this is lomwe tradition..Look now…at this salivating teacher…He has become an undesirable pest to other people’s daughters.

The case is that the teacher has been having sexual relations with an under age girl (15 years) and that is enough to put him behind bars. The case of abduction will be an addition to the case of sleeping with a minor. Thyolo has so many loose girls who are above 15, why risk a jail term over a 15 year old?

How can that be abduction while the news is clear they are in a relationship? The girl should just be withdrawn and be counselled, otherwise there’s no tangible reasons for the charges. That can easily be challenged in the courts of law probably if the teacher has a good representation. Some charges that the police give give out to remandees are rediculous.
