Malawi Police block opposition MCP rally in Ndirande by Mia

Malawi Police on Thursday blocked opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) from holding its scheduled tally in squarter township of Ndirande-Malababda in Blantyre  which was expected to draw thousands of people with Sidia Mia  as the main speaker.

Mi i was expected to address the rally together with leaders of MCP

MCP regional chairman for the south, Peter  Simbi said they informed law enforcers about their planned rally and that Mia was going to address the meeting.

But  the Police  has proven that is is being incluenced by ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) by stopping MCP  from holding the meeting.

“Yes, the police told us that we cannot go ahead with our rally . This is unacceptable in a democracy,” said Simbi.

Simbi  said the rally would be rescheduled vowing opposition MCP would not give up their fight to “rescue” the nation

He said blocking MCP and using violence to intimidate the opposition shows “timidity of the regime, but the regime is now short of ideas.”

  1. MCP, please wakeup!!! Who is cheating you that you can win any seat Blantyre let alone Ndirande? Can Sidik Mia who is struggling to convince his own Lower shire to go for MCP win the hearts of Ndirande? Let UDF talk of a smell in Ndirande not MCP please chonde. Who knows Mia in Blantyre? If there was a giant in Lower shire who was known in that area plus Blantyre, that was Chakwamba, who when he is conducting a rally in Chilomoni he could shake the whole Blantyre. Ndirande, Bangwe, Zingwangwa, and Chilobwe could board minibuses flocking to Chilomoni to hear the giant talking and joking. The only MCP president who could attract the north because of his eagerness in mixing with people. When he talks, the whole Lower shire could listen and accept his decision. That was when he was at his peak in MCP. It was easy for Lower shire to accept his decisions because he was the top most man in the party meaning he was closer to the state presidency. Despite all the support from the south MCP could not ascend into power. Now MCP thinks it can replace such a man with Mia who is little known in Blantyre let alone Ndirande. Can MCP mention any name in the south which made MCP known to the people? Can Sidik who has never played frontline politics except from his constituency convince Ndirande that MCP is a party to associate with? Why is MCP in a POLITICAL MASTURBATION? After all, winning the Lalanje seat does not mean people love MCP. It can be they like the individual not the party. Not all who will vote for Sitolo will also vote for Chakwera in 2019. MCP can be excited with Mia but at the same time losing Msowoya’s support in the north. So Mia might add a considerable support from the Lower shire but that will be nothing if another support pulls out from MCP north. At the same time MCP can see that DPPs support is not shaken in its stronghold even in Chaponda’s area. Instead, support from the center will be more than in 2014 because of the work of Minister Tembenu of Salima and Jeffrey of Nkhotakota. It means DPP can penetrate the center while MCP struggles to do the same in the south. Lower shire support cannot be claimed by one party especially on presidential race. UDF is there, DPP have roots there. While DPP is safe in LL MCP cannot do the same in Thyolo. Mwayiwona imeneyo? MCP and Mia should forget about Ndirande and Blantyre. Gwanda anali amuna amene aja kungoti MCP ndiyokanika basi.
