Malawi Police clears Speaker of wrong doing for hitting biker dead
Malawi Police has said their investigations have shown that Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya, who was self-driving, was not in the wrong when he hit and killed a cyclist Raphael Chinowe. at Chisemphere in Kasungu last week.
Msowoya was self-driving an official vehicle towards Mzuzu when he hit fatally a biker and he reported the incident to Kasungu Police Station as required by law, police have confirmed.
.Central Region Police publicist Ramsy Mushani said there is nothing criminal in nature about the incident but an accident as Msowoya was driving towards the same direction with the cyclist when the cyclist suddenly changed direction to cross the road and met his fate.
“Mr Msowoya was already very close when the cyclist suddenly changed direction to cross the road and he ended up hitting him as there was nothing he could. The cyclist died on the spot due to head injuries,” said Mushani as quoted in Daily Times.
He said Msowoya committed no criminal offence as the police are treating the incident only as fatal accident. He, however, said investigations are still going on to establish further possible causes of the accident.
The accident happened around 11:30am at Nanana Village near Chisemphere Turnoff.
Chinowe came from Chinowe Village in Traditional Authority Kaluluma’s area in Kasungu.

i was about to understand my fellow readers comments, there are really good,it is true that any one committing a crime of any kind is a suspect until the court proved him/her guilty. But kutukwana will benefit us nothing. A good comment becomes bad simply because of the language used.TOO BAD.
“ATUMBUKA KUPHA NDI KHALIDWE LANU” THAT IS NO SENCE! AMITUNDU INA NDI ANGATI APHANA MWADALA OSATI MWANGOZI? YOU ARE SAYING THIS BECAUSE ULIBE GALIMOTO NDINSO NDIWE MBULI. IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO COMMENT,DONT COMMENT ANYTHING
yes msowoya is has a case to answer until not proven guilty before the court.why the police are now doing the work of the judge?msowoya could ‘ve slowed down as soon as he saw biker ahead.in this case all bikers & pedestrians will be swept awa by cars.let the law take its course no scapegoat.you who always blame tumbuka ppo u r mentally ill.see mental doctors quickly before you start eating feaces.
When did police go to the media and explain whether someone has a case to answer ot not? This is rhetoric do you want to start practising politics? Resign and start ptactising politics……kkkkkk

I am told the biker and the holy Msowoya were going towards the same direction. It is the duty of the driver to make sure that he controls his vehicle for any traffic ahead of him. For sure this reckless driver saw the biker afar. He could have controlled his speed. That is driving. I am driver instructor and that is what I teach my driver trainees.Surely this total careless driving in a protected areas, Kasungu Township. He has a case to answer. These days all road accidents are considered crimes and its the court judge who has power to… Read more »
