Kingsley Dandaula, Lilongwe Police Publicist, said they were tipped by well-wishers that the car was carrying carcasses of cattle suspected to be stolen from Njewa Area.

“After we got the tip from the public, we set up a road block at Chitedza along Lilongwe – Mchinji Road and in the early hours of that day the car approached us but the driver, immediately he noticed our road block, ran into the bush, leaving the vehicle and the carcasses,” explained Dandaula.

He said the police took the vehicle which had no number plate and the dead cows to Lilongwe Police Station where the meat was examined by authorities and sold though the amount was not disclosed.

He said the police have kept the herds of the carcasses as exhibit in court.

They are appealing to the public that whoever is missing cattle should come to police to establish ownership and collect the money.
