Malawi Police nab 2 men over a K5.6m robbery

Police in Kawale, Lilongwe have arrested two criminals who robbed businessman, Geoffrey Chimombo K5.6 million in July this year.

The two Dan Uledi Kaonga, 34, and Robert Phiri, 35, are said to have violently attacked Chimombo, 38, at his house in Kawale1 on 14th July, 2015 and robbed him cash amounting to K5, 600,000.00.

The two have since been charged with offence of robbery with violence contrary to section 301 of the Penal Code, said National police Public Relations Officer, Rhoda Manjolo.

” The suspects hit the victim with a sharp object who later on reported the incident to police. After the report, police instituted investigations which led to the arrest of the suspects and have been positively identified by the victim,” explained Manjolo.

Kaonga hails from Mwahenga village, T/A Kyungu in Karonga district while his accomplice, Phiri comes from Gomere village, T/a Kwataine,Ntcheu.

They will appear before court soon.

  2. There r a lot of innocent people languishing in prisons bcoz of this perceived “positive identification” where the Police prepares a sham identification parade. Find the money then tell Malawians that u have got the culprits.
