Malawi Police net 5 over K23mil Ntcheu SFFRM robbery

Malawi Police in Ntcheu have arrested five people in connection with a K22.7 million robbery at Smallholder Farmers Fertillizer Revolving Fund (SFFRM) deposit in the district Ntcheu on the night of January 13.

Ntcheu police publicist Gift Matewere said the five have been arrested in Ntcheu and Mulanje and some cash and vehicles believed to have been bought using the stolen money have been recovered.

He identified the arrested as  Gift Seyama, 30, Evance Golden, 30, Lovemore Mindano, 35, Bright Mambala, 32 and Steven Maluwa, 33.

Except for Mambulasa who the police say was a resident of Mtandire in Lilongwe, the rest were residents of Ntcheu. The sixth suspect is yet to be identified.

Matewere said the police have since recovered K2.7 million cash and additionally ceased a Toyota Mark II and Toyota Carina suspected to have been bought using the stolen money.

The police say the five will soon appear court to answer charges of robbery.

“Investigations are in progress to arrest the remaining suspect and make some recoveries but after the January 13 robbery the police arrested a Sales clerk Soya Chimenya and a guard Charles Laison for being suspected of conspiring with the robbers,” said a source at the police.

We understand that the two were charged with an offense of conspiracy to commit a felony.

Ntcheu Police Spokesperson disclosed that Laison aged 36 is from Kasiya village, traditional authority Kwataine in Ntcheu and Chimenya aged 43 is from Chabuka village, traditional authority Kaduya in Phalombe.

Seyama is from Kaduya Vge, Traditional Authority Kaduya, Phalombe, Golden is from Zakutchire Vge, Traditional Authority Kwataine, Ntcheu, Mambulasa from Mwanjema Vge, TA Njewa, Lilongwe, Malola from Mkando Vge, TA Mkando Mulanje, Mindano Mbewe from Zamasiya Vge, TA Makwangwala, Ntcheu.

Ochewa ndi alomwe tsopano kkkkk. Choncho you hate northerners for dominating NGO and government offices because of their education. Where God has blessed, no man, lomwe, sena or chewa can curse. Look at s star in Mwawi Kumwenda – worldwide star from northern region. Kumasilirako zinazi isa!
