Malawi Police snub presidential aide Khoviwa over conman

Presidential aide Timothy Khoviwa  tried to use his position to free a friend who has been arrested on trick theft charge but has been snubbed by Police.

Lilongwe Police spokesman Kingsley Dandaula confirmed Khoviwa came to Kawale Police Station in Lilongwe after a suspect Japhet Khungwa called for him.

He said Khoviwa, who holds a powerful position of religious advisor to President Peter Mutharika, tried to secure the release of Khungwa who is accused of taking K3 million from a Blantyre based business woman.

“The apostle came and tried to mediate between the two. He suggested to the lady to allow Khungwa be released on bail so that he pays the money later but the lady refused because he took the loan through tricks a long time ago and he has been on the run since,” said Dandaula.

He said the suspect will be transferred to Blantyre where he will be brought to court.

Khoviwa confirmed having used State House vehicle and fuel to help secure freedom of a conman – his close pal.

He however said he did not want to use his State House position to influence the release.

“Japhet is my church elder so when he called I went there to see if I could mediate but the lady opposed to the bail because this issue had been dragging for long,” said Khoviwa.

He said he did not intimidate any police officer to force them free Khungwa.

Truly there is no issue worth reporting here
You have said that Khoviwa tried to mediate, then what’s wrong with mediation? Did he force the police to release his friend?

Where is the sarcasm and to whom?
So in your small world, being ignorant is something desirable? Why are people this afraid of simple truths?

And if you could get some learning, you would easily understand that technical words are also used loosely in non-technical sense and situations. Not surprising therefore that trait/character/behaviour/habit/conduct may be used interchangeably; irrespective of nature or nurture, as origin.

I wish that we people could argue more on tangible grounds/facts and less on non-issues!

The journalist is simply highlighting the link between a conman and Khoviwa, who tried to exert his influence to have his friend released. Cant you see this? Why should a so called spiritual, or is it witch craft adviser to the president assist a conman. They must be good friends, and probably share common values, including being conmen

The analyst, I concur with you. The whole issue is blown out of proportion. The reporter is trying to create a storm in a cup of tea. Suppose Apostle Khoviwa got Khungwa’s call while on the road driving the state house vehicle, was he supposed to drop out of it and board a minbus all bkoz he was going to Police to see a friend? Was he supposed to remove the state house fel and refill the car using his money which he also earns for working at State House? In my class of Journalism at Poly, I vividly remember… Read more »
