Malawi political bedfellows and foes unite at Atupele Muluzi grandmother’s funeral

Mourners from across the political divide come together at T/A Masula in Lilongwe to pay tribute of honour to Gogo Aline Chidzira Masula, a grandmother of cabinet minister Atupele Muluzi.

The deceased who died over the weekend in Lilongwe was grandmother to Minister, Atupele Muluzi, who is also leader of United Democratic Front (UDF).

Renowned leaders at the ceremony included former Malawi President Bakili Muluzi- father to Atupele , leader of the opposition and president of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Lazarus Chakwera, MCP legislator Lingson Belekanyama, former Speaker Henry Chimunthu Banda and independent MP David Bisnowaty.

The ruling DPP was represented by a contingent that had cabinet ministers Bright Msaka, Joseph Mwanamveka, George Chaponda, Patricia Kaliati and Peter Kumpalume.

Others were DPP Secretary General Ecklen Kudontoni, Dr. Ben Phiri, Presidential advisor Francis Mphepo, lawmaker Allan Ngumuya, Chief Secretary George Mkondiwa,  state chief spy Nicholas Dausi, Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale, , former Veep Khumbo Kachali and  former First Lady Callista Mutharika.

All eulogies for the deceased recalled how she positively impacted many people within the area and afar.

In his sermon Rev Katani Mwale of CCAP Nkhoma Synod reminded the gathering why it is important to live a fruitful life and leave a good legacy behind just as Gogo Masula did.

Gogo Aline Chidzira Masula has died at the age of 90.
