Malawi President Banda gets death threats, Mpinganjira tells presser

The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Brown Mpinganjira, Monday told the media in Lilongwe that President Dr. Joyce Banda together with her family are receiving death threats from unknown people following the intensive investigations over looting at Capital Hill.

Mpinganjira, who was speaking at a news conference held in conjunction with the Minister of Justice, Fahad Assani, said the President is receiving death threats from outside agencies as well as from within.

“As of now, I cannot say much as regards the death threats, because doing so will hinder investigations as well as will give room to the people involved in this to have ideas on how to hide and escape,” said Mpinganjira.

He added: “Some well-wishers are giving information about the plot that some people are planning to have the President killed over her bold decision to arrest the culprits who are involved in public funds looting.”

The two ministers assured the nation that government is working hard to have all the culprits of the money saga at Capital Hill imprisoned.

“There was information that was deleted from the system, but with the forensic experts that came in, the deleted information has been retrieved.

“This information dates back to 2005 when the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFIMIS) was first introduced in the country and all involved will face the law,” Mpinganjira said.
