Malawi President pardons 197 prisoners
Malawi’s President Peter Mutharika has pardoned 197 prisoners as part this year’s Christmas and New Year Celebrations.
In a statement released by Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security on Wednesday it said the 197 prisoners who have been pardoned are those who have served at least half of their prison sentences, with good behaviour and were not convicted of serious offences
“ Pardon of the 197 prisoners is a symbol of forgiveness as the country commemorates its Christmas and New Year Celebrations,” said Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security in a statement.
The pardoning of prisoners is common in Malawi during independence celebrations, as well as at Easter and at Christmas
The country’s 23 prisons are notorious for the poor conditions in which inmates are kept.
many plans about robbery are made in prison

Once a thug always a thug
We want casgate thieves to replace those released as soon as possible. We want Pika Manondo, Paul Mphwiyo, Leonard Karonga, Joster Njanji and many more in the prisons now. Ralph Kasambara should be sent to jail as well. He continues to defend bad people. We want Bakili Muluzi there too.
Zoona. Government akanawangwitsa ntchito akaidi ngati kusesa munseu, kudzala mitengo, kulima minda ya boma, ngati masamba amituntu onse. Kuumba njwera. Pali za mbiri zoti akaidi angamachite. Osamagonya muntendemo. Chotchoso kubwa kuchepa, chifukwa anthu aziopa.
If a person is a thief chop off his hand. If he is a rapist chop off his dick. If he is a murderer chop off the head !!!!!!! Simple solution, we will never have to have prisons again. There will be no crime in Malawi
Our prisons are overcrowded mainly by people serving sentences that can be described as petty crimes like stealing chickens or maize cobs. Such crimes should be adjudicated by local leaders or should attract community work as punishment. Otherwise some of the petty criminals finish their sentences as hard core criminals after being ‘inspired’ by incarcerated armed robbers. Our nation also has to create employment opportunies for the youths so as to be positively contributing to the national economic development.
Release those that are not a threat to the public otherwise with the current security breakdown Malawians will have tough time.
good show Mr President!Keep it up!
