Mzuzu Police publicist Peter Kalaya identified the two Mzuzu State House security officers as Constable Weak Njolomole of Njolomole village in Traditional Authority Njolomole 28 in Ntcheu and Sergeant Misheck Makweza 30 of Mtopi village Traditional Authority Nkalo in Chiradzulu who have since been arrested and are kept at Mzuzu Mobile Police Delta Company.

“Three hardcore criminals on Thursday mentioned the two as those involved in the spate of armed robberies in the city. Actually, our officers have already linked them to some armed robberies that have occurred in the city,” said Kalaya.

“We have managed to arrest 5 civilians in the process together with two officers,” he added.

He said the two State House security guards have been arrested along with three other suspected criminals.

According to Kalaya, the group was using Suzuki Alto vehicle registration number MJ 485 which they managed to confiscate and arrested Blessings Phiri (driver) 35 years of Mgolozera village, Traditional Authority Mkumbira in Nkhata-bay and Laston Balala 21 from Chitera village Traditional Authority Chitera in Chiradzulu after attack Asafag Rashid in Kaning’ina in the night of 5 June.

Others arrested suspects include Isaac Phiri 32 of Chionjeka village TA Khombeza in Salima, Andrew Banda 28 of Kapalamula village TA Kachindamoto in Dedza and Yusuf Simute 32, Msusa village TA Malemia in Zomba.

They are expected to appear in court, according to the police publicist in Mzuzu.
