Malawi Queens opener Sunday: Host Uganda off to a flyer

Host Uganda opened the campaign for the African Netball Championship with a flyer by beating Botswana 72 baskets to 29 at Lugogo Arena in Kampala.

Uganda as hosts have proved that they are a team to beat and they have improved their standard of play as of late.

Africa’s number one netball team, South Africa is not taking part in the continental competiton and have not indicated the reasons for their absence.

Number two number netball giants in Africa, Malawi Queens will throw off the championship on Sunday and they will face Zimbabwe from 2pm.

” We will have our final warm up on Sunday morning, ” Queen’s Assistant Coach, Samuel Kanyenda Saturday from Kampala in an interview.

He said so far there are no injuries and players are geared for the opening game against Zimbabwe.

Kanyenda said the games are being played in doors at Lugogo arena and there is no need to worry about weather condition in Kampala.

” Manchester Thunder player, Joyce Mvula joined the team three days ago and she has blended well with other players,” he pointed out.

Queens Assistant Coach hoped that Mvula will coordinate well once featured in with the rest of the players during the games.

Kanyenda said they are not sure on the pattern of play Zimbabwe will use during the game against Malawi.

He added Malawi Queens will not take chance to under rate Zimbabwe but they will push for a first win of the tournament.

Six teams namely host Uganda, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe will battle it out for the African title in the next five days.

The final games will be played on Thursday, June 29, 2017.
