Malawi Queens regroup for Independence celebrations match: To face Zambia

Malawi Queens regrouped on Sunday at Shire Highlands Hotel to prepare for the Independence Day celebrations match against Zambia on Saturday at Civo Stadium.

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary Carol Bapu said Malawi national netball team travelled on Monday to travel to Lilongwe to continue with its preparations.

“We have received confirmation that Zambia would arrive on Thursday. We know they are a changed side following their impressive display during the Africa Netball championship games,” she told Nyasa Times

“However, we will not let them spoil our Independence Day celebrations.  It is our hope that the Queens would bounce back from the setback with a victory to comfort the nation after giving away the championship [Africa Netball].”

The former two-time Africa Netball champions struggled to beat Zambia during the group stages of the championship. Zambia finished behind Malawi in group stages but they bowed out of the competition in semifinal after losing to eventual champions South Africa.

Bapu said the Griffin Saenda headed technical panel would not make any changes to the team that lost the championship.

“The coaches we will maintain the squad to avoid disturbing cohesion,” she said.

Malawi national football team the Flames will face Mozambique in friendly match.

This was another arrangement after government said that there would not be an international friendly this year as Bullets and Silver Strikers were expected to play on the day.

They started camping on Monday ahead of the games.
