Malawi Queens squad for C’wealth Games released

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM)  has released a list of 12 national netball team players for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games scheduled from July 22 to August 16 in Scotland.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) General Secretary Carol Bapu said the team would leave on Sunday for England where they will play friendly games against England and Wales before heading to Scotland.

But Bapu did not give more details concerning who will pay for the travel and accommodation expenses for the team.

“The team will leave on Sunday, 29 June because they will have a stopover in England for friendly games,” Bapu said.

NAM has released a list of players for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games scheduled from July 22 to August 16 in Scotland.

The  squad of 12 players comprise four players from Complex Tigresses,  two each from Diamonds, Blue Eagles and Civonets, one from MTL Queens and professional Mwawi Kumwenda.

The team will join head coach Mary Waya who left on Saturday to participate in women in sports leadership workshop organised by Anna White Foundations and Females Brilliance Achievers.

Old Mutual Malawi donated K600,000 to assist the netball legend Mary Waya to travel to UK to attend a women’s sports leadership course at the University of Chichester.

The money helped Waya to buy return air tickets to attend the sports leaderdership workshop organised by Annita White Foundation and Females Brilliance Achievers aiming at improving the confidence and leadership qualities of women in sports.

The following is the full list of players;

Shooters; Mwawi Kumwenda, (Tactix Australia), Sindi Simtowe, (Complex Tigresses), Joyce Mvula (Blue Eagles), Jane Chimaliro (Civonets),

Defenders; Caroline Mtukule Ngwira and Towera Vinkhumbo (Diamonds) Grace Mwafulirwa Mhango and Laruen Ngwira (Complex Tigresses) Joana Kachilika (MTL Queens), Takondwa Lwazi (Blue Eagles), Tina Kamzati (Civonets), Beatrice Mpinganjira (Complex Tigresses).

Malawi are Pool A alongside New Zealand. Jamaica, Northern Ireland, St Lucia and hosts Scotland while continental rivals South Africa are in Pool B alongside Australia, England, Wales, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.
