Malawi refs to handle U-17 World Cup qualifier

Malawian women’s referees have been assigned to handle Under-17 women’s football World Cup qualifier between Botswana and Zambia to be played in Gaborone on Friday.

Linda Chikuni will be the referee with Bernadettar Kwimbira Mzika as first assistant referee and Happiness Mbandambanda as second assistant referee and Grace Msiska fourth official.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said the appointment of Malawian referees was a boost to their profile.

“It is good for football in Malawi particularly for women’s football. These referees have always done a good job when given such matches and as Fam we are confident that they will continue to excel,” Nyirenda said.

He said the National Women’s Football Committee had developed a strategic plan for Malawi to participate in continental competitiions.

Kwimbira Mzika said they would leave tomorrow enroute to Kenya for the game to be played on Friday.

“We are spending a night in Nairobi and we will connecton Thursday to Gaborone. The game is on Friday 16,” she said.

“We will leave Gaborone on Sunday, same route and expected back home on Monday.”
