Rising star for Malawi national team, midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr, has attracted interest from South Africa’s Absa Africa’s Absa Premiership clubs following his performances in the COSAFA Cup, his first outing for the Flames.
According to South African media, Phiri who playsa for CAPS United in Zimbabwe, has apparently caught the eye of some of the South Africa’s flagship league scouts watching the tournament.
The 21-year-old is part of the Malawi side that beat Bafana Bafana on penalties in the plate semifinal Wednesday night,
“I’m not surprised that there’s interest from South Africa, he’s a really talented lad and has done well for Malawi in the COSAFA,” Soccer Laduma quoted Paul Mitchell, the managing director of Siyavuma Sports Group.
“He’s been playing well in Zimbabwe and I have no doubt that if he comes to South Africa then he will improve tenfold,” he added
Phiri, formerly of Mighty Wanderers and a son of football coach Gerald Phiri, is likely to feature in the COSAFA Plate final this week as the Flames look to get their hands on the trophy as they face Zambia.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
