Malawi slip five more places in Fifa rankings
Malawi National football team aka the Flames has dropped five places to 99 in FIFA’s monthly global football rankings, released on 18 January
On the African continent, Flames is ranked 23 from 21 last month.
The Flames has slipped down the rankings following have been idle since they took part in last year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup where they performed miserably.
Cote d’Ivoire still leads the list in Africa followed by Ghana, Algeria, Egypt, Senegal, Nigeria, Cameroun and South Africa with the likes of Cape Verde islands and Tunisia following.
Fifa says, “there were very few changes to 2012’s first edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola world rankings as precious little football was played around the world. In fact, only 11 matches were taken into account, including six that were actually played in 2011.”
World and European champions Spain stayed top of FIFA’s rankings.
