The 25-year-old has been rewarded for a fine for a fine performance as the 2015 Mainland Tactix Player of the Year, the Players’ Player of the Year and the Members Player of the Year on Wednesday.

The Malawian towering shooter said she was “very excited” with the recognition and paid tribute to her teammates for her being “ a shining star.”

Mainland Netball CEO Brigit Hearn described the Kumwenda as “ world-class athlete” and said they they are looking forward to having her back in 2016.

“Mwai has demonstrated over the past two seasons what an asset she is to the Tactix team and we are delighted to have secured her for another season,” she said.

“She is a key part of the Tactix family and it’s been a priority for us to re-sign Mwai as we continue to build a core group of players to take our game to the next level.”

Kumwenda finished the 2015 season with a 91 per cent average over 13 matches, second only to Northern Mystics shooter and Silver Fern Cathrine Latu.

NAMS STANDOFF WITH MWAWI KUMWENDA – 1STVERSION Mwawi imported 2 x 40′ assorted netball materials to donate to various places of her choice. Being a donation this qualified for duty free, however Nam as a parent body was supposed to facilitate this in a way of righting to the government certifying the intended purpose. Nam imposed on her a condition that it should therefore be the one to disperse the materials if it was to issue the aforesaid letter. Mwawi refused, understandably so because she had her targets (one would be tempted top think that the Chinundas, Bapu’s would have… Read more »
