Malawi star Mwawi insipires Waves to go top of Australia league
Malawi’s only foreign netball player Mwawi Kumwenda continues to make headlines in Australia after another outstanding performance on Wednesday helped Peninsula Wave win 54-29 agains Gleenlong to go top of the Victorian Netball League (VNL).
The Malawi Queens evergreen shooter was unstoppable as she notched 50 baskets out of 54 .
The other baskets were scored by Stacie Procotor.
The result was Waves’ fourth successive win of the season for the current league leaders.
Mwawi has so far scored over 220 baskets in the four games, giving hope to her ambition to be the league’s top goalscorer for the second successive season.
Last season, she was named VNL’s best player and top goal shooter.
In her interview with Nyasa Times, Kumwenda said: “Iam so happy because this is the second game which l have notched in many baskets than any other player at our club.I am dedicating this victory to all Malawians during this Easter holiday.”
The former Escom Sisters player also saluted her colleagues for her success.
“They are very supportive and let me also hail my coach for inspiring me during training,” said Kumwenda.
“The best is yet to come,” she said in an interview from Melbourne.
