Malawi teen boy shot dead at Nkhunga Police
Disbelief engulfed Nkhunga Police Campus in Nkhotakota Friday afternoon when a fourteen year old boy was shot dead while playing with his friends in the law enforcers’ complex.
Nkhunga police public relations officer (PRO) Laban Makalani confirmed the development, saying the boy was hit by a stray bullet in the chest.
He said the deceased was a son to detective Sergeant Dyson Masimbo of the same police station.
“The boy identified as Blessings Masimbo was chatting with his friends and suddenly got shot in the chest by a stray bullet,” said Makalani.
However, the publicist said the source of the stray bullet was from unknown assailant and police were investigating its source.
“The boy’s body is currently at Matiki Health Centre where postmortem is expected to be done in order to establish the caliber of the gun used,” he said.
The PRO neither denied nor confirmed rumours that the boy was shot by his friend (name withheld) who is also a son to another police officer from the same campus. The rumour had it that Nkhunga Police was keeping the suspect in custody.
“We are also shocked to what has happened and police are busy investigating the source of the bullet and reasons behind the gun shot,” he said.
The deceased who sat for recent Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) Examinations hailed from Malumba Village, Traditional Authority Kapoloma in Machinga where burial is expected to take place.

Our police need to be restrained. We need to curb their powers, lessen there arms, take away fire arms from any who mis behave, or are insufficiently trained. A policeman who does not have fire arms skills should not wear one.
