Police in Thyolo have arrested 18 year old Chamasowa Makwiya for stoning his mother, Ketrina Bulaundi to death.
Thyolo Police Public Relations Officer, Edith Likaka told the Malawi News Agency on Monday that on October 5, the suspect quarreled with his aunt, Egry David over a knife.
“The aunt was blaming the suspect that he misplaced the knife. In the course of the quarrel, the suspect started throwing bricks at his aunt. Unfortunately one of the bricks hit his mother who was trying to stop the quarrel. The brick hit her on the left side of her abdomen.
“She fell unconscious and was taken to Thyolo District Hospital where she died on the night of 6 to 7 October,” said Likaka.
Likaka added that a postmortem report from the hospital revealed that she died from a ruptured spleen.
The Thyolo Police Publicist says Chamasowa Makwiya is in police custody and awaits trial to answer a murder charge.
Burial ceremony of the remains of Ketrina Bulaundi took place at Nchilamwera Village on Sunday.
Makwiya hails from Nchilamwera Village, Traditional Authority Nchilamwera in Thyolo and the deceased, Ketrina Bulaundi, his mother, hailed from the same area.
