Malawi teenage wife in court for pouring hot water on husband

Malawi  Police in Lilongwe have arrested a woman suspected of pouring hot water on her husband over some disagreements.

The suspect has been charged with causing grievous harm contrary to section 235 of Penal Code.

The woman, Angelina Mwanga, 19, was on 8th April 2017 arrested for allegedly causing grievous harm for pouring hot water on her husband after some disagreements.

The family, from Area 23 in Lilongwe, is said to be on separation and the woman went to her husband to get some kitchen utensils where a quarrel ensued.

The case was referred to Lilongwe Magistrates court on 11th April 2017 where the accused pleaded guilty to the charge. However the victim, Maclean Ching’oma, was not available during the trial.

State prosecutor in the case, Constable Chipiliro Kachigamba, urged the court to give stiff punishment to the suspect.

Lilongwe First Grade Magistrate Sarah Beza who was presiding over the case adjourned the case in order to pave way for the state to parade another witness.
