Malawi to export netball talent to Tanzania

Tanzanian netball team, Filbert Bayi, plans to recruit Malawian players,  according to the team’s owner, former Olympic Games silver medalist Filbert Bayi.

A report on Tanzania’s IPP Media quotes Bayi saying  he feels that Malawi players are good and could help his side to shine in the sport and is hoping to sign at least three Malawian players on loan.

He added that his side wants to learn from the Malawi national team which is placed fifth on world FINA rankings.

Malawi netball stars: Tanzania club to recruit three players

“We feel Malawians can teach our players some skills and tricks. We hold Malawian netballers in high esteem, they are on top of the FINA ranking positions and also they have many netball development plans,” Bayi is quoted saying.

He, however, could not reveal his potential targets, saying the discussions are still going on .

But he said his team will offer short term deals to the players from Malawi, saying long term contracts would be difficult.

The report said Bayi has worked with Malawian netball starts when he signed  last year coach Mary ‘Atcheya’ Waya and Takondwa Lwazi.

Bayi said his team is in a working relationship with National Association of Malawi (NAM) and Malawi Police netball team (the Blue Eagles).

Malawi has only one netball export, Mwayi Kumwenda, who plays in Australia. She is country back in the country and expects to return to Australia in February.
