Malawi to host 51st SADC PF plenary session

Parliament of Malawi will from 7th to 16th July, 2022, host the 51st Plenary Assembly Session of the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

President Lazarus Chakwera—who is the current Chairperson of SADC—will preside over the official opening ceremony of the Session on 11th July, according to a press release issued by Clear of Parliament, Fiona Kalemba.

SADC PF is a regional inter-parliamentary body composed of Members of Parliament from all SADC Member States, representing over 3,500 parliamentarians in the SADC Region.

Some of its objectives include promotion of human rights, gender equality, good governance, democracy and transparency; promotion of peace, security and stability and hastening the pace of economic cooperation, development and integration on the basis of equity and mutual benefits.

According to the press release, the 51st Plenary Assembly will be held under the theme “Towards Energy Efficiency, Sustainability and Self-Sufficiency in the SADC Region”.

“And there will be a symposium on the theme which will be chaired by the Minister of Energy, Hon. Ibrahim Matola to be held in the afternoon of Monday, 11th July, 2022 at 2.00 p.m,” adds the statement.
