Malawi top band Black Missionaries to release ‘Kuyimba 9’ album Feb 18

Fans of Malawi’s top band, the Black Missionaries can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the Chileka band is set to release four singles off their highly anticipated album ‘Kuyimba 9’ on February 18.

Band leader Anjiru Fumulani, flanked by younger brother and keyboardist Chizondi and bass guitarist Ras Peter Amidu, told Nyasa Times  that the release date has been locked in and will not shift.

“There is no more shifting because everything is finalized,” sai Anjiru.

“ It’s been three weeks since we mixed and finalised the music. We were just waiting for one or two things. We wanted to give our brother Anthony Makondetsa some space because he has just released his album and we will also be recording music videos to be ready for the singles release,” Anjiru added.

The four songs that will be released as promotional hits are ‘Angochimwilabe’, ‘I’m not a failure’, ‘Bwenzi Langa’ and ‘Okondedwa’.

On how Kuyimba 9 will be different from the rest of the Black Missionaries releases, Anjiru noted that the listener is the best judge.

“People will differentiate for themselves. On our part, what we do is we create what we feel and think is a good album but we cannot judge ourselves which is why we leave it to listeners to be the judge. But what I can say is that we have improved on several areas and this is a much better piece of artistry,” he said.
