Malawi U17s qualify for semis in Cosafa Cup: Thump Kenya 5-0

Malawi Under 17 national football team on Tuesday progressed to the semifinal of the Cosafa Junior Championship currently underway in Mauritius after a 5-0 thumping of Kenya  in one sided clash.

The Junior Flames only needed a draw to progress but produced a stunning performance according to reports on Cosafa website.

Flames youngster Peter Banda was the heroe of the day after netting a hat trick.

He first scored in the 52nd minute with an impressive shot after beating two defenders and the goalkeeper.

Banda came up again in 59th minute with a beauty and completed a hat-trick in the 90th minute to make it 5-0, sending Kenya out of the championship.

He was also voted man of the match and received a minature and a match ball.

The other goals for the Junior Flames were scored by Frank Chizuze who opened the score sheet in the 19th minute  when headed a beautiful cross from the left and Frank Madinga goal in the 64th minute.

With the hat trick, Banda is the current joint top scorer alongside Zambia’s Nicholas Mulilo and they both have three goals.

The Junior Flames have also become the first team at this years tournament to register a wider goal margin scored.

Zambia was the first team to qualify for the semis and the list will be completed on Wednesday as South Africa face Mauritius while Seychelles date Namibia.

Kenya, who were the guest nation in the tournament, managed only one win against Madagascar after losing to Zambia and now Malawi.
