Urban Music People Awards nominations have officially been opened as of Sunday 1st October.
Ndefeyo Entertainment, organizers of the annual music celebrations say the 17 categories will be voted by the public.

The gala event will be held at Bingu International Convention Centre on November 18 and the Festival on November 19 at Blantyre Sports Club with South African multi award winning rapper EMTEE as main headline act.
According to a statement seen by this publication the public votes will be weighed with those of judges.
These judges are panel of industry experts on Malawi urban music. Further scrutiny has been put by invitation of professional auditors.
The public can vote by texting 9393 for Telekom Network Malawi PLC subscribers and 2885 for Airtel Malawi subscribers.
The text voting code is UMP followed by category and the name of the artist you are voting for.
TNM subscriber’s sms’ will cost MK50 and Airtel subscriber’s sms’ will cost MK25 with multiple voting allowed.
UMP Communications Officer, Thoko Kadewere in an interview clarified why UMP has chosen to go for multiple voting instead of one vote per person; which some have raised fears that those with financially muscle can win over well deserving artists.
“We want the public to vote as many times as possible. However, we have put in place control measures that will ensure that one person doesn’t screw the votes” said Kadewere.
“In addition to that, judges will help us determine who won fairly by monitoring how individuals are voting and who they’re voting for”. She said.
For media awards, Kadewere said “as opposed to having the public vote for who they think is good, the Media Awards will be determined by votes from urban musicians” adding that an online link will be provided this weekend.
During the media conference organizers by the UMP Awards organizers an issue of Corporate Social Responsibility was raised.
Kadewere now says information pertaining to UMP’s SCR will be released in the following week as they are currently sorting out technicalitiesFollow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
