Malawi veep Chilima drags govt to court over protocols, benefits
State vice-president Saulos Chilima has taken secretary to the Office of President and Cabinet and the Inspector General of Police to court for their failure to restore protocols and other benefits to the UTM president following a Constitutional Court ruling two weeks ago.
Chilima’s lawyer Khumbo Soko has confirmed filing contempt of court documents to the court against Cief Secretary to government Lloyd Muhara and Duncan Mwapasa the police chief respectively.
“Nothing has happened since the court ruling two weeks ago. We wrote the attorney general over the issue so that the relevant authorities take action to restore the benefits.
“He assured us that the OPC and the IG would comply with the court order but nothing is happening up to now,” said Soko.
The Constitutional Court a null the May 21, 2019 presidential election, saying it was marred with irregularities and anomalies that had been so widespread, systematic and grave that the election result had been seriously compromised.
The court then reverted the country to the 2014 presidential election which put president Peter Mutharika and Saulos Chilima into power as state president and state vice president respectively.
This automatically means that Everton Chimulirenji has ceased to be state vice president.
He said Muhara and the OPC are responsible for giving back Chilima his convoy vehicles, the official residence, office, salary and other benefits befitting a state veep while the Inspector General of police is responsible for providing the necessary security detail for the vice president.

Here we are all what the Vice President can do is to claim his benefits. Due to poor institutional set up he cannot do anything to benefit Malawians, he cannot decide, he cannot perform any function from that his office is there for. But he can ask for benefits. What a shame. We need to change the functionality of the Vice President office to have its own job description and accountabilities. Period.
Surely this DPP government has no leader. The court gave you orders, so why not just follow the law and prepare for the next election? It just looks petty delaying to implement the court orders.

We call it fong Kong here. Did you wonder why Chinese shops don’t accept returns.They have no faith in their own products. Companies that work for government must properly be vetted. Include maintenance in their contracts if something goes wrong within a specified period, let them fix it for mahala. Bring on good government negotiators so you don’t get a raw deal.

He is Vice President and deserves his full benefits, Hanna you have demonstrated how a salvage you are. When a very dull Chimlilenji got full benefits you never complains, why? Government Institutions compliance with laws or Court orders is becoming a mountain to climb largely because most of those who are occupying key Government positions are either DPP Cadets or too Lomwelized.IG Duncan Mwapasa and Chief Secretary Lloyd Muhara’s mentality is that everything belongs to Peter Muthalika. This is what has brought about growing anger amongst many Malawians.
The IG & the Chief Secretary are mere Cadets who don’t know their job, Protocol to them its APM
