Malawi VP Kachali’s political prostitution should not be celebrated
Those who root for empty political chivalry have found a lot of fodder in the rather late leap this week of Vice President Khumbo Kachali from the ruling PP where he was second in command to the opposition DPP, a party that mercilessly kicked him out in 2011 together with President Joyce Banda.
We, at Nyasa Times, refuse to join the senseless band wagon because we believe it is such brazenly foolish political bitching that has earned our politics—whose essence is public service—a bad name that it is a little dirty game.
When Kachali’s action of defection is put in its proper prospective and context, the resultant praxis is that his switch is not driven by any sense of decency but it is essentially an act driven by enormous greed and insatiable hunger for power.

It is a known fact that since Kachali missed out on the runningmate spot to President Joyce Banda in the ruling PP, his mind and soul were somewhere else. The timing and destination of his current switch reek of nothing but has revenge as a motive written all over it.
His rant the other day to please his new political masters to the effect that his omission for runningmate position in the PP was tantamount to the party rejecting people of the North is as empty as his promise to the DPP that the people of that region will vote for it next week Tuesday because of the act of Kachali.
Let us be clear here: Kachali should not overestimate his importance in the North by the mere fact that he comes from there.
But more than that, it is a fallacy of hasty generalization for him to imagine in his wildest dream that the over one million voters in the North would be shepherded like his flock and act according to his political whims at the beckon of his index finger to all vote for DPP. Kachali should come down from his sweet pedestal and fantasy and face reality on the ground.
And talking of reality it is this. Kachali is a political prostitute and pimp all rolled into one. His political moves are not driven by anything of benefit to Malawians but to himself and his family. Malawians should reject this for what it is: empty political salesmanship that does not bring any single sale.
It is political prostitution that must not be celebrated at all.
