Malawi woman held for hacking husband to death: He wanted to marry second wife
Police in Machinga have arrested 45 year old Tima Ojesi Chabwera for killing her husband who wanted to marry a second wife against her wish.
Police Public Relations Officer in Machinga, Constable Amos Tione said on Monday that the police arrested the suspect Sunday after killing her 55 year old husband, Umali Chabwera at Dinji Village, Traditional Authority Ngokwe in the district where the two were staying.
Tione said when the wife did not accept that her husband should marry a second wife a disagreement ensued which became worse on Sunday as the husband insisted to marry the second wife.
“This did not go down well with the wife who resorted to hacking the husband on the right shoulder with a panga knife.
“The man who sustained a big cut on the shoulder and was severely bleeding, was rushed to Ngokwe Health Center where he died while receiving treatment,” explained Tione.
Tione said results of postmortem conducted at Machinga District Hospital revealed that Umali Chabwera died due to internal bleeding and heavy loss of blood.
Meanwhile, the suspect is under police custody waiting to appear before court to answer murder charges contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code.
The suspect comes from Namunu Village, Traditional Authority Ngokwe in Machinga.
