Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed the development through a press statement released on Tuesday.

According to Nyirenda, the match which was expected to be staged at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe has been postponed because Tanzania national team has been denied permission to travel outside the country ahead of Sunday’s General Elections.

“The friendly match between the Malawi Womens Football team and their Tanzania counterparts which was set for Sturday 24th October at Civo Stadium has been cancelled” reads part of the statement.

“This is due to Tanzania being denied permission to travel outside the country ahead of the General Elections set for 25th October” adds the statement.

The statement however indicated that the friendly match will be rechuduled to possibly the second week of November.

Meanwhile, Malawi National Womens Football team players who have been camping at Chiwembe Technical Centre have been released until further notice.

This was the first time for Malawi womens football team to assemble since 2012.

The team is however expected to participate at the Cosafa Womens Cup to be hosted by Seychelles in March 2016.
