Malawi Writers Union extends deadline for Fattani junior essay contest
Malawi Writers Union (Mawu) has extended deadline for the Fattani Junior Secondary School Essay Contest, arguing they want to maximize competition among entrants.
Mawu president Sambalikagwa Mvona told Nyasa Times in an interview that much as they had received “overwhelming feedback” from entrants, they were still looking forward to considering more entries that have registered in their mail box since July 31 – the supposed closing date.
“More entries have been coming in since the date we were supposed to have closed. We want as many secondary school students to participate that is why we decided to extend after we liaised with our sponsors,” said.
According to Mvona, the next deadline is October 31, 2015.
Mvona said the prizes have also been revived with the winner carting home K80 000 plus 100 exercise books from supposedly K50 000.
The runner up and third winner will get K60 000 plus 100 exercise books and K30 000 plus 100 exercise books respectively. All the prizes are courtesy of Fattani Offset Printers, headquartered in Malawi’s commercial capital of Blantyre.
The entries must be sent to Fattani Junior Secondary School Essay Contest, Post Office Box 32724, Chichiri, Blantyre 3, Mvona said.
