Malawian artist signed to South African label

Sean Focus, I have made connections all over

Malawian singer from the group Team Gypsy, has clinched two deals with South African record labels.

The 21-year-old Sean Focus (real name Kondwani Mapemba), who is currently in the rainbow country, disclosed this in an online interview with Nyasa Times.

“I am now signed to Blayze Entertainment as a producer and Ice & Roses as an artist,” said Sean Focus.

He further revealed he would be producing for Blayze Entertainment artists and at the same time recording his own songs with Ice & Roses for a year.

“It’s the basis of videos, studio time, promotion, easy entry into channel O, MTV Base and Trace. I can get into SA radio stations and Zimbabwe stations,” he said.

South Africa is one of the countries whose music is doing well on the African continent and the artist could not hide his excitement after clinching the deals.

Said the multitalented artist:  “It feels scary but great. I was told by a fan that ‘it was only a matter of time’ and I guess it’s true, but am so excited.”

While disclosing that next year he will be producing for Mariechan, a member of South African female group, Sean Focus added: “I’m going to make connections.”

Before clinching the two deals, the artist who went to South Africa two months ago, had two performances in Pretoria and Johannesburg alongside Zimbabwe’s R&B star Nox, who is signed to Sony Africa Music.

“It’s been a wonderful experience in South Africa and my stay here has made a bridge and built relations with other artists. It has helped to expose Malawi’s hidden talent,” he said.

Along with his friend BoiMagic, Sean is the co-founder of Imvaize which stands for “Listen to this” formerly known as “The Hood boys”.

Experienced in Sound Engineering, Sean started making music for the love of production in 2006. Producing in his bedroom with his childhood friend BoiMagic till 2010 when he was recognized by Theo Thomson and started working at Matalala records as a Producer.

Inspired by Sean Kingston, Drake, Ndubz, Stargate and Timberland, Sean has worked with several African artist such as Trappa, Young Kay, Rina, TayGrin , Tigris, Theo Thomson, Shyman and Peterson, and he has also performed on the same stage with Brick and Lace and Sean Kingston.
