Boxing promoter Lt Col Godfrey Jalale said an Italian film maker has offered an opportunity to the six Malawian boxers to be part of the project.

He said the Italian had already shot videos in Malawi as part of the project which would highlight the plight of boxers in the Southern Africa region.

“There’s an opportunity which has opened for Malawian boxers as an Italian film maker would like to have six boxers who should include one female boxer,” he said.

“The boxers would be drawn from all categories and emphasized that the team should include a female.”

But Jalale did not divulge the nitty gritty details of the move apart from informing the Malawi Professional Boxing Council.

General Secretary of the professional boxing council Frank Chibisa confirmed the development saying the body was ready to select the best boxers to take part in the project.

Chibisa said they would offer Malawians a chance to expose the standard of the sport in the country.

“Although we are yet to be informed on the details of the project obviously our boxers stand to benefit from the trip to Italy.

“We are happy and commend the Italian through Lt Col Godfrey Jalale for offering us this chance. I am sure our boxers would benefit in one way or the other.”
