Malawian man marries own daughter and has child with her after divorcing wife: Sent to jail after
A 53 year old man in central region tobacco growing district of Kasungu has started serving a two and half jail term for marrying his own biological daughter with whom he has a child.
Kasungu deputy police publicist Harry Namwaza said Jelian Phiri married his 20 year old daughter after he divorced his wife.
Namwaza said the police charged him with incest and the Kasungu magistrates court sentenced him to two and half years on incest charges.
Phiri and his daughter cum wife come from Chigwiri village in chief Chakhadza’s area in Dowa.
He was arrested over t his incestuous relationship with his young daughter.
Cases of incest are rare in Malawi though cases of stepfathers defiling or raping their daughters are said to be on the increase.
