Malawian youths in sex trade for survival, Nsanje district –paper

The sensation tabloid, Weekend Times on Friday reported that some Malawian youth in Nsanje district are engaging in sex trade to eke a living where boys ask their friends to take to bed with their girlfriends at a fee of K100.

According to the paper, this was revealed at the HIV/AIDS Awareness Cinema show by the Pakachere Institute of Health and Development Communication in Collaboration with Assorted Youth Club at Makhanga in Traditional Authority Mlolo in the district

On single day a girl can sleep with five males, in one after another showdown, particularly during weekends, it was reported.

“Let’s break the silence. One of the behaviors leading to further spread of HIV in this area is ‘select’ behavior whereby 5 males would sleep with on girl one after another,” the Clubs chairperson Mabvuto Masala is quoted as saying.

The reported that the behavior is fueled by business activities during weekends.

“The train comes every Saturday carrying along business men and women inviting girls to sell groundnuts. Usually when a boy gets a girlfriend among many girls he invites four or more friends to have sex with the girl after himself and he collects K100 from each boy on spot,” according to the tabloid.

Timothy Tallo, Youth Network Chairperson, has since urged youth clubs, traditional leaders, district council and Non Governmental Organizations operating in the district to put their efforts together to ably deal with such conducts.
