Malawians in South Africa to host 2012 year end gala

To usher in the festive season and celebrate the end of 2012 in style, Malawians and friends living in South Africa (RSA) will be treated to a glamorous night of celebration at a Year End Gala Dinner to be held on Saturday the 1st of December 2012.

The event, set to be a memorable night of glitz and glamour has been organized by the Association of Malawian’s and Friends in South Africa (MAFSA).

The association, which was founded in Johannesburg in 1994, was initiated to provide a platform through which Malawians residing in RSA could express their identity and have the opportunity to associate and pursue social and economic endeavors that would enhance their lives and positively contribute to the development of the societies in which they live as well as the Motherland.

Lomwe: To headline show

Currently in its 18th year running, the event will take place at the renowned Southern Sun Hotel at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and is set to be a memorable night of glitz and glamour which will bring some of the warmth of the Warm Heart of Africa to the Rainbow Nation.

The gala will not only attract Malawian patrons from across South Africa and their associates, but will also lure in patrons and import talent from Malawi.

Among those who will be heading to Johannesburg to take part in the festivities will be Big Brother Africa Star, DJ Lomwe, who will entertain the patrons with his musical prowess.

Fashion designer Lily Alfonso will be auctioning some of her designs for charity.

Former TV personality and socialite Fatima “WakuMalawi Uja” Nkata will be director of ceremonies for the night.

As part of commemorating World Aids Day, which falls on the same day as the event, MAFSA will donate part of the proceeds towards HIV/AIDS Charity work in Malawi.
