Malawi’s BBA duo in Kenya for anti-jigger campaign
Malawi’s envoys to the Big Brother Amplified reality show DJ Lomwe (Tendani Namate) and Felica Ngoma have been in Kenya on an invitation from that country’s BBA envoy Millicent Mugadi to attend Jigger bug eradication charity event.
Felicia tweeting from Nairobi said on Saturday said apart from reuniting with former housemates, they took part in charity work at the Jigger medical camp.
She said they toured an area called Thika, for an industrial town in Central Province, to attend to over 500 jigger-infested residents.
Jigger affects people when the flea enters the feet and hands causing a swelling. The swollen area is usually itchy and may turn pinkish or reddish. Jiggers are dangerous and are reported to cause the death of 20 people out of 200 living in affected areas.
Lomwe and Felicia were joined by the continental reality TV celebrities including BBA winner Wendall (Zimbabwe), Hanni (Ethiopia), Vina (Nigeria) Danny (Ethiopia), Kim (Zambia) Mumba (Zambia), Bernadina (Namibia), Zeus (Botswana), and Millicent and Nic from Kenya.
According to The Standard of Kenya, the Malawian duo and other former housemates were accorded a heroes reception complete with motorcades and a red carpet party hosted in their honour at Galileo. one of hottest joints in Nairobi.
The report also indicated that they had a date with the Prime Minister’s wife Ida Odinga and Nairobi City Town Clerk Phillip Kisia before carrying out charity activities in and outside Nairobi.
The celebrities also undertook tree-planting exercise in honour of the late Green Belt Movement founder and Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai.
