Malawi’s Chilemba dates Briton’s Bellew in rematch set for May 25

Malawi’s ‘Golden Boy’ Isaac Cholemba and Englishman Tony Bellew’s rematch will be held on May 25 at the O2 Arena in  South-East London, it has been announced.

The bout will be held on the undercard of Carl Froch’s world title unification fight with Mikkel Kessler.

Chilemba and Bellew fought to a frustrating draw in their first encounter, leaving both men to dispute who should have walked away with the victory.

The judges scored the first meeting between the duo 116-112 Chilemba, 116-115 Bellew and 114-114.

The winner of the second bout will earn a shot at the winner of WBC champion Chad Dawson’s clash with Adonis Stevenson on June 8.

Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed both men were keen to have the rematch as soon as possible.

“There was no winner, so we need to find one,” he said.

“Many people thought Tony won, some thought Chilemba won. It’s a fight both need to get off their back.”

The winner of the rematch will  likely challenge for the world title in September.
