Malawi’s Chilemba ready to KO Englishman at Liverpool Echo Arena this Saturday

Malawi’s ‘Golden Boy’ Issaac Chilemba has  has assured the fans that he has the “knockout power” to take down Englishman Anthony Bellew, in this Saturday’s World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight final elimination fight slated for Liverpool Echo Arena .

Chilemba told Nyasa Times from Liverpool, England that he was all set for the 12-round bout promoted by Matchroom Sport in association with DiBella Entertainment.

“I’ve been training so hard. I will raise the Malawi flag high again,” he said.

Chilemba nonetheless said Bellow is a “worthwhile opponent”, saying he is not underestimating the Englishman.

The Malaiwan pugilist also told the official broadcaster of the match in United Kingdom, Sky Sports that it is going to be a big fight.

“I’m coming up to put my heart on the line. I’m coming up to fight. I’m coming for a win, it’s going to be huge. I’m looking forward to fighting in Liverpool in front of everybody in his hometown and put on the fight of my life,” said Chilemba.

But his opponent has also vowed to ‘die’ with his gloves on.

“Some people see this as a 50/50 fight, but in my eyes, I’m going to hurt [Chilemba] him. When I go into a boxing ring, I’m willing to die. Is he willing to go that far?” Bellow told UK’s Daily Mail.

Malawi Boxing Association general secretary Arthur Nanthuru declared the fight as make or break for Chilemba, saying: “ I’m sure he will make us proud once more as he gets closer and closer to a title shot.”

The bout will also serve as a WBC silver title fight with the winner between the Malawian and the Englishman poised to eventually challenge WBC champion Chad Dawson.

Chilemba has fought 22 fights winning 20 including nine knockouts, lost once and drawn once while Bellew, 30, has fought 20 fights winning 19 including 12 knockouts and lost once.
